The MacKillop Saints U16 Boys Rugby League side delivered a commanding performance on Saints Field today, recording a comprehensive 58–0 victory over a combined Katherine High School and St Joseph’s Katherine outfit.

Following in the footsteps of their older peers, the U16s signalled their intent early and never looked back, producing a polished and disciplined display across both attack and defence.

Led by the team’s only Year 11 player, Luke Knight, the Saints started strongly. Their intent was clear from the opening sets, and it took just three minutes for dynamic half Harry Liddle to cross near the uprights after a well-constructed team set that immediately put Katherine under pressure.

From that point on, the Saints controlled territory and possession with authority. Despite brave defensive efforts from Katherine, the home side’s structure and speed across the park proved too much, as they ran in a further 10 unanswered tries to close out a dominant 58–0 result.

Timana Roe continued his rich vein of form, backing up his four-try haul in the Open Boys fixture the previous week with another four tries from hooker. Liddle and fullback-turned-five-eighth Bryce Morley each added doubles, while vice-captain Tyler Heikkinen, Judd Boulton, and Year 9 talent Trey Tauariki also found their way onto the scoresheet.

While the margin was significant, Coach Sharp was quick to refocus his side, praising their effort but stressing the importance of maintaining standards regardless of the scoreboard. In particular, he highlighted completion rate and defensive accountability, urging players to ensure every tackle counted and habits remained strong under pressure.

With a heavily rotated bench, extended minutes were handed to players such as Angus Pomroy and Franco Barbajo, both of whom made strong contributions. Pomroy, in particular, was lively with ball in hand, narrowly missing out on a try after being held up just short of the line following a slick right-edge movement.

In the forward pack, Year 9 prop Tyler Moore impressed with a series of powerful carries, continuing to push his case for a starting position ahead of next week’s highly anticipated clash against a familiar foe.

Attention now turns to a blockbuster fixture against fellow competition heavyweights Taminmin College. The match will be played at Goodline Park next week, with families invited to attend from 12:00pm for the U16 Girls fixture, followed by the U16 Boys at 1:00pm.
